2400 Motel has recertified as a Living Wage Employer!
The 2400 Motel has been one of the premier motor court addresses following its construction in the years immediately following the Second World War. The 2400 Motel is the sole remaining record of Kingsway assuming the key role in providing up-to-date car-oriented accommodation for North Americans traveling to Vancouver. It's important for its historical, formal, aesthetic and cultural values, most particularly for being a prominent marker of the evolution of Kingsway following the WWII. The Motel is a local remnant of the continent-wide infrastructure serving the North American romance for the road trip, providing guests with a familiar suburban home-away-from home.
“Being a Living Wage Employer is a large part of our identity as a Pillar of the Community. It ensures our team, and their families are taken care of, and that we can focus on delivering the best service experience possible for our guests.” - Kristian Miller, General Manager, 2400 Motel
The living wage is the hourly amount someone needs to earn to cover basic expenses. The Living Wage for Metro Vancouver is $24.08 an hour.
“We’re delighted that 2400 Motel has continued to commit to being a Living Wage Employer. We hope it encourages other employers to continue within the Living Wage movement. Paying a living wage is good for workers, employers and the local community” said Anastasia French, Living Wage for Families BC
Certifying as a Living Wage Employer is a voluntary commitment employers make to invest in their communities and local economies. There are now nearly 400 Living Wage Employers in BC.
