A NEW LIVING WAGE EMPLOYER!
DIVERSEcity Community Resources Society just became a certified Living Wage Employer - committing to pay their staff and contracted workers a living wage.
At DIVERSEcity, they help newcomers and other diverse communities build the life they want in Canada. As a registered charity in Surrey and the Lower Mainland, they have had their doors open for 42+ years. Supporting staff wellbeing is an important priority for DIVERSEcity under their Strategic Plan 2024–2029, and they're proud to have been certified as a Living Wage Employer in BC. They have said that this certification reflects their commitment to ensuring fair and equitable wages for all their employees.
“Thank you to Living Wage for Families BC for this recognition. It’s important to ensure we have a workforce that makes a living wage,” said Neelam Sahota, Chief Executive Officer, DIVERSEcity.
As the cost of living has increased across BC, the importance of paying a living wage has never been more important. The living wage is the hourly amount someone needs to earn to pay for basic essentials like food and rent, it doesn’t include paying off debt or saving for retirement. The Living Wage for Metro-Vancouver is now $25.68 an hour.
“We want to take care of our staff who pour their heart into this work and ensure they are seen as equal partners in the mission of our organization.” DIVERSEcity
As a certified Living Wage Employer, DIVERSEcity is adhering to a set standard that guarantees all employees, whether full time, part-time or temporary receive a wage that covers the cost of living in BC. This not only promotes employee wellbeing, but also fosters a positive work environment and reinforces our values as an organization.
"We’re delighted that DIVERSEcity has become a Living Wage Employer. We hope it encourages other employers to join the Living Wage movement. Paying a living wage is good for workers, employers, and the local community.” said Anastasia French, Living Wage for Families BC.
Certifying as a Living Wage Employer is a voluntary commitment employers make to invest in their communities and local economies. There are now almost 400 Living Wage Employers across BC.
