Employer Spotlight: Demolition Impossible

Why paying a Living Wage matters at Demolition Impossible

In this short blog, Joshua Millard, Co-Owner of Demolition Impossible Contracting Inc. explains why they became a Living Wage Employer, and the benefits they’ve found from being part of the program.

Demolition Impossible is a demolition and deconstruction company. We provide high-quality demolition, selective deconstruction, disposal, and skilled labour services. We are currently a team of 15, and we are rapidly expanding.

We have been a Living Wage Employer since 2021. When we first started Demolition Impossible, we knew we wanted to set the standard for industry practices. Providing better working conditions for our employees in a tough industry and an expensive city has always been the goal. Which is why becoming a Living Wage Employer was a no-brainer for us.

Since becoming a Living Wage Employer, we’ve noticed real, positive changes in our workplace.

“Our staff is able to afford to live in Vancouver, lessening the financial stress and burden otherwise faced. Ultimately, allowing our employees to show up to work feeling appreciated and satisfied with their position at Demolition Impossible. This alone has allowed us to become a leader in the demolition and deconstruction sector.”

Paying a Living Wage doesn’t just benefit our team, it strengthens the local economy and helps families thrive. We’re proud to be part of a movement that’s making a difference across Vancouver and the Lower Mainland. We encourage others to join us in becoming Living Wage Employers. Together, we can create a fairer, more sustainable future for everyone.

Certifying as a Living Wage Employer is a voluntary commitment employers make to invest in their communities and local economies. There are now over 500 Living Wage Employers across BC.

The living wage is the hourly amount someone needs to earn to pay for basic essentials like food and rent, it doesn’t include paying off debt or saving for retirement. The Living Wage for Vancouver and the Lower Mainland is now $27.85 an hour.
