Why paying a Living Wage matters at Edge Consultants
By Anu John, Associate, Edge Consultants
At Edge Consultants, our work is rooted in creating healthier, smarter, and more sustainable outcomes through the buildings and infrastructure we help deliver, and through the way we operate as a company.

Edge Consultants is a multidisciplinary engineering and sustainability firm with a team of 25 people spanning across British Columbia and Ontario, supporting complex, mission-critical projects across healthcare, mixed-use residential, and other essential infrastructure. Our team of sustainability consultants, engineers, and specialists collaborate to deliver high-performance solutions that put people and communities first.
We became a certified Living Wage Employer in 2025 because we believe our success is defined by our People, further emphasised in our Core Value of People. In practice, this certification formally recognized what was already in place at Edge. Becoming certified was a natural step that aligned with our long-standing commitment to fairness, equity, and long-term wellbeing.
“Paying a living wage has a real, positive impact on our team. It supports financial stability, reduces stress, and helps create a workplace where people feel valued, included and supported. That sense of security allows our team to show up fully for each other, for our clients, and for the communities our projects serve.”
While certification did not require changes to our structure, it reinforced the culture we have intentionally built, one that prioritizes people, trust, and sustainability. Alongside a living wage, we also emphasize flexibility, professional development, and an inclusive workplace where individuals can grow, collaborate, and thrive over the long term.
Paying a living wage doesn’t just benefit our team; it strengthens the local economy and helps families and communities’ flourish. As a firm deeply connected to the places where we live and work, we’re proud to be part of a broader movement that supports healthier, more resilient communities.
We encourage other organizations to join us in becoming Living Wage Employers. Together, we can build a fairer, healthier, and more sustainable future for everyone.
Certifying as a Living Wage Employer is a voluntary commitment employers make to invest in their people, communities, and local economies. There are now more than 450 Living Wage Employers across British Columbia.
The living wage is the hourly amount someone needs to earn to cover basic essentials such as food, rent, and transportation. It does not include paying off debt or saving for retirement. The Living Wage for Metro Vancouver is currently $27.85 per hour.
