Employer Spotlight: Human Nature Landscapes

Why paying a Living Wage matters at Human Nature Landscapes

In this short blog, Mike Wood, President of Human Nature Landscapes explains why they became a Living Wage Employer, and the benefits they’ve found from being part of the program.

Based on the Sunshine Coast, we specialize in designing, building, and maintaining exceptional landscapes from Gibsons to Sechelt and beyond. To better serve our community, we’ve recently expanded to include Traffic Control services, ensuring safety on our local roads. With a dedicated team of 25—and growing every season—our people remain our greatest asset.

Human Nature Landscapes has been a certified Living Wage Employer since 2025. This certification isn't just a badge; it reflects our core belief that taking care of our team is paramount. By paying a living wage, we ensure our employees can cover their essential costs and truly thrive as active members of our coastal community.

Investing in our people leads directly to better service for our clients. A financially secure, happy team means greater stability, higher dedication, and better quality work for all our clients and vendors.

Since becoming a Living Wage Employer, we’ve noticed real, positive changes in our workplace .We’ve seen a significant boost in employee retention and pride, as our team knows their contributions are truly valued. This commitment to stability is paired with our full benefits package, a yearly boot and gear allowance, and our commitment to professional development.

Paying a Living Wage doesn’t just benefit our team, it strengthens the local economy and helps families thrive. We’re proud to be part of a movement that’s making a difference across The Sunshine Coast.

We encourage others to join us in becoming Living Wage Employers. Together, we can create a fairer, more sustainable future for everyone.

Certifying as a Living Wage Employer is a voluntary commitment employers make to invest in their communities and local economies. There are now over 450 Living Wage Employers across BC.

The living wage is the hourly amount someone needs to earn to pay for basic essentials like food and rent, it doesn’t include paying off debt or saving for retirement. The Living Wage for the Sunshine Coast is now $26.65 an hour.
