Employer Spotlight: Long Life Windows & Doors

Why Paying a Living Wage Matters at Long Life Windows & Doors

In this short blog, Kris Alexander, Owner of Long Life Windows & Doors, explains why the company became a Living Wage Employer and the benefits they’ve found from being part of the program.

Long Life Windows & Doors is a family-owned company that has been serving homeowners throughout the Lower Mainland for more than 35 years. We specialize in premium window and door replacement solutions and employ approximately 20–25 team members based in the Greater Vancouver Area.

We have been a Living Wage Employer since 2022. We became a Living Wage Employer because we believe that the people who contribute to our success deserve to earn enough to live and support their families in the communities they serve. Our employees are the foundation of our business, and investing in them is essential to delivering the level of quality, craftsmanship, and customer service that our customers expect.

Since becoming a Living Wage Employer, we’ve noticed real, positive changes in our workplace.

“Our team is the reason homeowners trust us with one of the most important investments they can make, their home. We believe that when people are fairly compensated and supported, they can focus on building rewarding careers, providing exceptional service, and taking pride in their work. Becoming a Living Wage Employer was a natural extension of our values. It’s helped us attract and retain great people, strengthen our culture, and create a workplace where employees feel valued and invested in our shared success.”  — Kris Alexander, Owner of Long Life Windows & Doors.

In addition to paying a living wage, we offer extended health benefits, a wellness spending program, paid training opportunities, and a profit-sharing program that allows our team to share in the company’s success.

Paying a Living Wage doesn’t just benefit our team, it strengthens the local economy and helps families thrive. We’re proud to be part of a movement that’s making a difference across Metro Vancouver. As a local business, we’re committed to creating meaningful employment opportunities and contributing to the long-term well-being of the communities where our employees live and where our customers call home.

We encourage others to join us in becoming Living Wage Employers. Together, we can create a fairer, more sustainable future for everyone.

Certifying as a Living Wage Employer is a voluntary commitment employers make to invest in their communities and local economies. There are now over 500 Living Wage Employers across BC.

The living wage is the hourly amount someone needs to earn to pay for basic essentials like food and rent, it doesn’t include paying off debt or saving for retirement. The Living Wage for Vancouver is now $27.85 an hour.
