Why paying a Living Wage matters at Royal Printers Ltd.
In this short blog, Chelsea Gieschen, Vice President of Royal Printers, explains why they became a Living Wage Employer and the benefits they’ve experienced since joining the program.

Royal Printers is a fourth-generation commercial printing company based in New Westminster, proudly serving businesses across Western Canada since 1932. With a focus on quality, service, and responsibly produced print, we employ close to 40 people across the organization.
In 2021, we made the commitment to become a Living Wage Employer. As a family-owned business, we understand how closely financial stability is tied to individual well-being and strong communities. Providing a living wage supports not only our employees, but also their families and the broader community. It’s a natural extension of our commitment to creating a workplace where people feel valued, respected, and supported - because long-term success is built by people who are able to thrive both inside and outside of work.
Since becoming a Living Wage Employer, we’ve seen measurable improvements in recruitment and retention, along with a stronger sense of pride across the organization. Fair, predictable pay has helped us attract committed team members and build long-term stability, which ultimately makes us a better, more reliable partner for our customers.
We’re proud to be part of a growing movement that’s making a meaningful difference in our province. We encourage other businesses to consider becoming Living Wage Employers. Together, we can help create a fairer, more sustainable future for everyone.
Certifying as a Living Wage Employer is a voluntary commitment employers make to invest in their communities and local economies. There are now over 450 Living Wage Employers across BC.
The living wage is the hourly amount someone needs to earn to cover basic essentials such as food and rent; it does not include paying off debt or saving for retirement. The Living Wage for Metro Vancouver is currently $27.85 per hour.
