Employer Spotlight: 2400 Motel

Why paying a Living Wage matters at 2400 Motel

The 2400 Motel is a 65-room motor court located on Vancouver's historic Kingsway Corridor. In fact, as we enter our 80th year, we are the last Motel operating in Metro Vancouver. Since 1946, we've welcomed travelers seeking a unique and authentic hospitality experience, supported by a dedicated team of approximately 10–20 employees throughout the year.

We have been a Living Wage Employer since 2020 and were proud to become the first accommodation provider certified through Living Wage BC. We chose to become a Living Wage Employer because we believe that the people who care for our guests deserve to be able to care for themselves and their families. After nearly 80 years in business, we've learned that great hospitality starts with taking care of the people who deliver it.  As a locally owned small business built on a legacy of hospitality, supporting our team is one of our most important responsibilities.

Since becoming a Living Wage Employer, we've seen the benefits firsthand. Our team is more stable, experienced, and engaged, which directly contributes to the guest experience we provide every day.

Paying a Living Wage doesn't just benefit our team—it strengthens the local economy and helps families thrive. We're proud to be part of a movement that is making a positive difference across Vancouver. Beyond our commitment to fair wages, we strive to be a responsible community partner through our award-winning sustainability initiatives, Rainbow Registry Accreditation, and by continuing the legacy of one of Vancouver's most iconic roadside landmarks.

As employers, we can choose to view wages simply as a cost, or as an investment in people. We believe in the latter. When employees feel valued and supported, they stay longer, build stronger relationships with guests, and help create the welcoming culture that independent hospitality providers are known for.

We encourage other business owners to explore becoming Living Wage Employers. Investing in people creates stronger businesses, stronger communities, and a more sustainable future for everyone.
