We have certified 17 New Living Wage Employers across BC!
390 direct employees, and countless contracted workers will now not need to worry about how they will pay rent and food for their families because their employer has guaranteed to pay them a Living Wage.
The Living Wage campaign is growing into new sectors
This month we have certified Living Wage Employers in different sectors and communities. From a local business that works with Canadian artists like Puzzle Lab, to important councils like the Central Kootenay Invasive Species Council and the Community Futures Development Corporation of Howe Sound.
We are pleased to acknowledge that these employers have committed to paying their employees a Living Wage. This initiative will significantly benefit workers earning lower wages. We encourage additional employers to consider joining the Living Wage movement.
“Being a Living Wage Employer is part of our commitment to "ethical capitalism". It means recognizing that the people who make our work possible deserve to earn enough to support their livelihoods with dignity, safety, and security. Paying a Living Wage is not just a compliance exercise for us. It is a core part of our approach to sustainability, alongside responsible manufacturing and long-term economic health. When our workers are supported, our business and our community are stronger.” Sarah Murphy, Director of People and Culture, Puzzle Lab
“Being a Living Wage Employer means paying people fairly for the work they do, recognizing the real cost of living, and building a more stable, sustainable workplace.” Kieran Hale, Executive Director, Community Futures Howe Sound
“Being a Living Wage Employer means committing to pay workers an income that supports a basic standard of living in Vancouver. It reflects respect for the people who keep the organization running and supports staff stability amid high local costs. Artists and arts workers are being priced out of the city, and access to equipment and creative resources is becoming harder to sustain. VIVO wants to lead by example and show that artists and cultural workers deserve a living wage and a workplace that supports long-term participation in the arts sector.” Carla Ritchie, General Manager, VIVO Media Arts Centre
