Letter to the Premier
Last week, we sent a letter to Premier Eby and some of his cabinet, urging them to incorporate Living Wage provisions into new procurement directives.
As the province asks ministries, health authorities, and core Crown corporations to thoroughly review their contracts with U.S. companies, it’s critical they also ensure that any company they do business with is paying its workers a Living Wage.
Amid the ongoing economic challenges caused by tariffs, it’s vital that government response programs support all British Columbians, especially those who are most vulnerable and have the least ability to cope with economic shocks.
One of the best ways to strengthen our local economy is by ensuring fair pay for workers. By including a Living Wage requirement in provincial procurement processes, we can ensure that those working for companies that win government contracts can afford basic necessities like rent, food, and other essentials.
