Thurber Engineering

We have a new Living Wage Employer!

Thurber Engineering just became a certified Living Wage Employer - committing to pay their staff and contracted workers a living wage.

Thurber Engineering is a consulting engineering firm with a mission to deliver specialist advice and services where projects meet the ground. With a team of engineers, scientists, geologists, technicians, and support staff, they work together to solve complex geotechnical and environmental challenges.

Thurber became a Living Wage Employer to officially be certified for something that we already provided our staff. As noted in our Social Responsibility statement, 'Thurber values the diversity of our people and employs qualified people of all backgrounds, including women, Indigenous Peoples, and other minority groups. Thurber is also active in maintaining value for our employees by paying them a fair wage that is competitive with industry standards." Thurber is thankful to now be Living Wage certified and is glad to continue to offer a great place for people to work!" - Thurber Engineering

As the cost of living has increased across BC, the importance of paying a living wage has never been more important. The living wage is the hourly amount someone needs to earn to pay for basic essentials like food and rent, it doesn’t include paying off debt or saving for retirement. The Living Wage for Metro-Vancouver is now $25.68 an hour.

When most people are asked “what’s the best thing about working for Thurber?” the consensus at the company is the people. Thurber fosters an environment focused on building relationships and community, both in and outside of work. Thurber is composed of incredible staff who are not only technically proficient but are also great people. Many of the people who work for Thurber appreciate and are thankful for Thurber’s emphasis on mentorship, collaboration, professional development and putting family first. - Thurber Engineering

As a certified Living Wage Employer, Thurber Engineering is adhering to a set standard that guarantees all employees, whether full time, part-time or temporary receive a wage that covers the cost of living in BC. This not only promotes employee wellbeing, but also fosters a positive work environment and reinforces our values as an organization.

We’re delighted that Thurber Engineering has become a Living Wage Employer. We hope it encourages other employers to join the Living Wage movement. Paying a living wage is good for workers, employers, and the local community.” said Anastasia French, Living Wage for Families BC.

Certifying as a Living Wage Employer is a voluntary commitment employers make to invest in their communities and local economies. There are now almost 400 Living Wage Employers across BC.
